Surgical pearl: the pendulum or "scoop" biopsy.

چکیده
relatively unchanged over the last 10 years. Exophytic lesions are typically shaven, while deeper processes are sampled with a punch biopsy. However, we have found that these two techniques are often impractical and cumbersome in their application to some cutaneous morphologies. We introduce a technique which employs a punch biopsy-pen to perform a shave or “scoop” excision. This method is ideally designed for those lesions in which a deep shave is required, but a straight blade is awkward to apply flush with the skin surface.

An Artificial Neural Network Derived Trauma Outcome Prediction Score as an Aid to Triage for Non-Clinicians
In mass casualty events Emergency Medical Service Providers (EMS) choose treatment at Scene or a "scoop and run" approach. The latter requires clinically trained personnel at the reception site to triage patients. Current methodology based on Revised Trauma Score (tRTS) requires use of Glasgow Coma Scale, a method reliant on experience and clinical knowledge. This makes the system subjective an...
متن کاملMy approach to atypical melanocytic lesions.
Histological assessment of melanocytic naevi constitutes a substantial proportion of a dermatopathologist's daily workload. Although they may be excised for cosmetic reasons, most lesions encountered are clinically atypical and are biopsied or excised to exclude melanoma. Although dysplastic naevi are most often encountered, cytological atypia may be a feature of several other melanocytic lesio...
متن کاملBionic Design for Mars Sampling Scoop Inspired by Himalayan Marmot Claw
Cave animals are often adapted to digging and life underground, with claw toes similar in structure and function to a sampling scoop. In this paper, the clawed toes of the Himalayan marmot were selected as a biological prototype for bionic research. Based on geometric parameter optimization of the clawed toes, a bionic sampling scoop for use on Mars was designed. Using a 3D laser scanner, the p...

متن کاملHow much to do at the accident scene? Paramedic agrees with most of comments about prehospital care.
The argument over how much care to give trauma victims at the scene of an accident reflects the development of the ambulance service. Originally the ambulance service simply provided a means of transport to hospital. As such the best policy was to scoop the victim up and run as fast as possible to the hospital, where treatment was started— “scoop and run.” Extended training of ambulance personn...
